I have found that advertising in differant avenues has helped my sales. Such as bigcrumbs you can list your store for free. Using facebook, Everyplaceisell.com will put your store in alot of search engines, this is free. When your listing your items on auction, put at least 10 minutes between items so if people want more than one item listed they have time to bid on them.

So now you have to sell at fixed prices to be seen more and you have to spend more for the fied prices and some big guy gets the sales and you just gave your money away again. Not for me! I always did like ebay, and I still do, but I fed them enough its time I eat now. :)

I'm not sure how some sellers get higher prices for the same merchandise. Maybe they have a repeat customer base with an established comfort level with that particular seller. They do seem to be the larger volume sellers, who deal more in fixed price than auction. Just my perspective, but I could be wrong about that.

When I had my store I had over a thousand items in it, when I shut the store I still had a thousand items. I refuse to waste my money on a non-return venue. Sure I did make sales especially around the holidays but the fees took a lot of my profit. That is why I will stick to ecrater, and yes its hard there but you stand a better chance in getting the right price for your item and not have to penny-pinch the stuff you sell on ebay. I rather sell a few good quality items on ecrater then to lose money selling on ebay and selling way under someone elses price.

You are right about that. A couple of my competitors who sell the same brand names seem to be doing very well, but they list 75-100 items on auction 2 or 3 times per week. They must have helpers. There is no way I can compete with that. It is tough for the little guy, so I guess the only solution is to offer quality while branching out into other venues.

I don't know about you guys, but I see plenty of sales on ebay and mostly to the big guys. I check out the glass items and the pottery items and they are selling. I check out kids clothes, textiles and more and they are selling. We the little people who don't have a store does not get the coverage. I am above average in my dsl's and I still don't get the lookers. I will only put a few things on there in a months time and April is finished for me, so I will wait for May to add a few items.

I agree; sales on ebay have really slowed. I'm sure the economy is part of it. But, I wonder if merging all of the store items into core hasn't diluted the search somewhat. I just don't get the traffic or inquiries I had a couple of months ago.

Well this year I finally made a profit and it had nothing to do with ebay. I sold mostly on my other venues and some sales were on ebay (no profit there) I did my taxes, and waiting to get paid! This new year I will be listing only when there are specials. I just did a few this past week as they had a 50% off listing. So I gave them a break lol and listed a few items, yep just a few.

Everytime ebay announces changes, I question how much longer I can continue there. I sell clothing so the profit margin is quite small. Ebay has cultivated an environment where buyers want rock bottom prices and free shipping. I just reduced my store inventory by about 60% and am moving much of it to Bonanazle. I'll continue to list on Ebay, probably with more auctions and fixed price on some of the more popular items and then include business cards and inserts with packages to help drive traffic. So far, it has been a slow go. I'm just not sure which venue is the best alternative for clothing. I am hoping to get more insight from seller networks as to what works best.
